Following the Civil War, Melbourne and her sister city, Eau Gallie, would develop alongside one another before being consolidated in the late 20th Century into the contemporary City of Melbourne. Presently, Melbourne consists of two historic downtown areas harkening back to the days when the consolidated city was two separate settlements, as well as a bustling commercial district.
